MRS. DEB HENRY
3RD GRADE

Hello, and Greetings from third grade.  My name is Debra Henry and I have been teaching at Iowa Valley for the past 32 years.  I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a K – 6 teaching degree, and received my Masters as a Reading Specialist from Teikyo/ Marycrest University.

My husband, Patrick, and I live in South Amana.  We have 3 children: a son, Karl, a Manufacturing Engineer, a daughter-in-law Jae, and granddaughter, Mina Rosalie, they live in Farmington, MN;  a daughter, Katie, who is a Turnaround teacher at Little Clippers in Tiffin; and a son, Andrew, who works as a Supervisor at UPS. Some of my favorite things to do are traveling, doing things with the family, biking, reading, being outside exploring nature, and chocolate.

Third grade is an exciting year with lots of new things being taught.  I am responsible for teaching social studies and my teaching partner, Mr. Shade, teaches Science.  The rest of the academic studies are done in each of our classrooms.  I try to incorporate technology as much as possible and will do at least one research project a year.  Some of the topics they will learn this year are cursive, multiplication, division, growing plants, immigration, government, and poetry.  We will hopefully be able to visit the Iowa Capitol building and State Historical Building in Des Moines as well as the Amana Trails.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me at dhenry@ivcsd.org or call the school 319-642-5422.
